Recently, I received a message from Kacper, the chairman of the Youth Club of Gazeta Polska in Częstochowa, and I have to admit it really warmed my heart. 🥹✨
After this year’s commemorations at the Powązki Military Cemetery in Warsaw, some of our flags were removed before the grass was mowed. It turned out that a cemetery worker gave an entire box of our flags to young people from Częstochowa who happened to be cleaning the cemetery.
And guess what?
Those very same flags have now been placed on the graves of soldiers in Częstochowa. 🇵🇱
Kacper and his friends are preparing the military cemetery there ahead of the upcoming commemorations, and they decided to use our flags to honour the soldiers buried there. Kacper sent me these photos and gave me permission to share them, and I am truly happy that I can share this story with you.
But this message means something even more to me.
Kacper wrote that they have been following W jak Wolność, that they appreciate what we are doing and that they would like to cooperate with us. It was thanks to him that the idea came up to expand the campaign to Częstochowa next year.
And I think moments like this show me more than anything that this campaign is beginning to take on a life of its own.
It is reaching beyond Warsaw.
Beyond one team.
Beyond one person…
Next year, we want to be in Częstochowa as well my hometown and I truly believe that this will not be the end.
I would love for W jak Wolność to eventually become a nationwide campaign, so that in cities across Poland there are people who can say:
“We have soldiers’ graves here too. We want to remember them too.”
Kacper, thank you for your message, for the photos and, most of all, for your willingness to cooperate. It truly means a lot to me. ❤️
